about us

Electro Plus is a locally owned and operated electrical company in New Plymouth.

Started in 2016 by husband and wife team, Shane Read and Hayley White, Electro Plus is a family business, centred on approachable, friendly and professional service, delivered by an expert team.

With 25 years’ experience in the electrical industry, Shane started his career as an electrician on rigs across the globe. With the addition of a young family, Shane left the rig life behind and together with Hayley, started their own business in New Plymouth. As well as keeping busy with their three children, Hayley ensures the smooth running of the office, taking care of the accounts, HR, and marketing.

Over the last nine years, Hayley and Shane have built a strong and reputable team of Master Electricians. They are now one of the leading electrical contractors serving the Taranaki region.

Our personal service and professionalism is extremely important to us. From the initial phone call or email, during the design process, right through to high-quality completion and on-going maintenance, our team of experienced project managers and Master Electricians provide professional advice using open and transparent communication.

John Shepherd

John Shepherd

Operations Manager/Registered Electrical Inspector

John has been working at Electro Plus since 2018, beginning as a registered electrician. He’s now responsible for our whole team as Operations Manager. He enjoys being a part of a company that is innovative and supports everyone on the team to learn and progress. “It’s great to see how much this company has grown since I began, with some impressive, large-scale projects completed. I really enjoy seeing our younger guys putting in the effort to become registered electricians.” He says he is proud to work alongside our expert team to provide our customers with top quality service. In his spare time, you’ll find John out hunting or fishing, or enjoying the odd game of rugby followed by a cold one.

Registered Electrician

Lukos joined our team in 2021 and has been an important part of the Taranaki team. He’s working on a variety of projects including architectural new builds, historic villa renovations, commercial additions, and everything in between. “As a father of two, balancing work and my personal life is important. I value taking time for family, and enjoying a BBQ and beer with family and friends. As well as outdoor activities like hiking and swimming. Hayley and Shane have provided nothing but support to me and my family, in terms of reaching both professional and personal goals.”

Registered Electrician

Drae is a local Taranaki lad who grew up in Ōpunake. After completing our apprenticeship programme under the supervision of our Operations Manager, John Shepherd, he became a fully Registered Electrician in 2024. “I love being a part of the Electro Plus team and appreciate its family-focused and local values. I’m excited to continue building my experience as a qualified electrician.” Outside of work, Drae makes the most of his weekends with beach volleyball, motocross, and spending time with friends.

“Working for Shane and Hayley is a blast.” In 2020, Dane joined our team as an apprentice and since then has gained a wide range of experience on our residential, commercial and air conditioning projects. “Working at Electro Plus has exceeded my expectations and I look forward to what’s in store in the years to come.”

Fourth year Apprentice

We first met Rylee through the Spotswood College Gateway Programme that provides a pathway for local students from education to employment. “I joined the team initially to complete work experience alongside my electrical studies at WITT. I’m now employed full time and working through the fourth year of my apprenticeship. I’m loving every minute of it. I work with an amazing team, full of hard working and inspiring people. The team at Electro Plus has supported me through some tough times and provided me with the confidence in knowing they always have my back - in work and in life.”

Manawatu Operations Manager/Registered Electrician

Naylor heads up our Manawatu team and like the rest of the team, values quality and workmanship. “I joined Electro Plus as it was clear that Shane and Hayley have high standards and excellent customer service, which is important to me. Being treated like part of the family is a bonus - and a big reason why I’ve stayed.” Outside of work I love spending my time with my family at local horse events.

Josephath Ngaro-Kias

Third Year Apprentice

Joe joined our team as a Trade Assistant and began his apprenticeship with Electro Plus in 2023. He is now completing the third year of his apprenticeship. “I’ve already learnt so much from the experienced electricians here. It’s a great team to be a part of.” In his spare time, Joe enjoys producing beats, playing basketball, and gaming.
